My First Video Podcast!

With a lot of help from my brother Jacob and my son, Guthrie, I have somehow managed to post my first video podcast.  Be forewarned that it’s very, very, very low-tech.  Anyhow, here it is:

A few annotations: After recording the podcast, I checked out the Freedy Johnston video I mentioned — for “Bad Reputation” — and the framing issues weren’t nearly as egregious as I remembered. … Many, many thanks to my friend Anthony Sandberg, the folks at OCSC Sailing, and all those nice people on my boat. … Also, I would like to note that iMovie should not be used by people with high blood pressure or with any plans to sleep.

My tentative goal is to try to use my new Flip HD camera (which I love) to shoot a second video podcast tomorrow, commemorating Memorial Day.  I welcome — nay, crave — your comments on this one … but as noted, it’s my first time, so please try to be gentle.

Good first effort Josh! I can sympathize about iMovie; it can be horribly painful to work with. I upgraded to Final Cut as soon as possible. Steep learning curve, but well worth the effort. Since Sara is a teacher you may be able to get a steep academic discount for Final Cut Express…

It would be like the video podcast you had for the Josh Kornbluth show – you’d submit the feed to iTunes so people could subscribe on their iPods. Maybe ask the KQED folks how they set that up? Of course you’d then have to host the video files somewhere other than YouTube and might need to put them up in a different format…

I really enjoyed your first ever podcast. And I am very happy that you made it back from your long journey alive. I do have a question: A few nights ago I sauteed some chicken in balsamic vinegar and it tasted great, but the vinegar kind of stuck on the bottom of the skillet and burned, making clean-up much more difficult than I would have liked. Did you have this problem with your foot? If so, how did you handle it?

Thanks, Tanya! … Regarding your culinary question: The way I avoid that clean-up problem is by putting my foot in a baggie before sautéeing. This should also apply to fingers and noses. However, you do have to throw out the skillet after use.
